Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! I hope you’re all having a wonderful day!
The past few days, I was reminded of why I love running.
Tuesday was not a great day. Without going into details, there were some changes announced at work that were both expected and unexpected. After a tense morning and unsettling afternoon, all I wanted to do was go for a run. Tuesday being a cross training day, and since I’m trying to respect the training plan this week, my need to run would have to wait until my planned tempo run Wednesday morning. The plan was for five miles, with three at 9:22(ish) pace. Done and done.
Truth be told, I almost blew off this run. My quads were feeling pretty sore and part of me wanted nothing more than to pull the covers up over my head and forget yesterday ever happened. But off to the gym I went – and the power even stayed on this time! 5 miles later I was done. Physically and emotionally, this run took everything I had, and I felt significantly better once it was over. Well, the soreness didn’t feel a whole lot better, which I took as a sign that Power Sessions weren’t happening last night (rest is good). But there’s no doubt in my mind that I had a better day yesterday because of my run.
So thank you running, for salvaging what could have quickly snowballed from a bad day into a terrible week. Here’s hoping next week is better!
And one last thing, in addition to being Valentine’s Day, today is a very important day because it’s my mom’s birthday! Happy Birthday Mom! Hope you have a great day!
Now it’s your turn! Has running ever salvaged a bad week for you? Tell me about it!
