I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday weekend (or just the weekend for those outside the US). I was officially on vacation this week, although I did end up heading into work a few times to take care of a few things. Workout wise I was all over the place. Recap:
AM: 3 mile easy run. Advantage of being on vacation – getting to wait to run until the sun is out and it’s a bit warmer. Wahoo!
PM: YogaLove Power Sessions. We spent a lot of time working on the hamstrings. I expected to be pretty sore the next day, but felt okay.
NTC Tower of Power (45 minutes) at home. Also known as squats, squats, and more squats. Used 8 and 10 lbs weights and felt spent afterwards.
30 minutes of yoga at home. Really had no desire to do much of anything workout wise. It was pouring buckets of rain, and I had plans to take a holiday baking class which would have made fitting in a treadmill run at the gym a challenge. Attempted a 1 hour yoga podcast, but got half an hour in and bailed. Too many distractions.
Thanksgiving! Also the first day of the Runners’ World Holiday Run Streak. After going back and forth about it, I decided to take the plunge and attempt to run/walk one mile every day from Thanksgiving until New Year’s. I even signed up for a challenge that Cyanne from Run Stretch Go and Karen from Karen Loves to Run put together to help keep me on track. I figure the streak would be a good way to help build up my mileage for spring training while staying active over the holidays. My streak started with a very windy four miles around the neighborhood before settling into eat all the food. I was actually surprised by how good I felt since I was out way past my bedtime (or the bedtime of any reasonable 30 something that doesn’t get up at the crack of dawn to work out) with friends.
Day 2 of the streak – 3.1 miles to celebrate my 31st birthday.
This run never felt easy. I blame all the delicious things to eat and all the wine at Thanksgiving dinner.
Squeezed in a quick mile (9:05 pace) for Day 3 of run streak before heading up to New York City with my Mom the see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.
20 minute walk (a little under 1.5 miles) for the streak and 90 minute all levels yoga class.
The Good: I’m going streaking!
Bad Not As Good: Would have like to had done two days of weights, but I just didn’t make it a priority this week.
What’s Next?: Now that it is December, I want to get back into a more regular routine with my workouts so that half marathon training isn’t such a shock to this system in January. 2 days weights, 2 yoga classes, and keeping up with the run streak.
Now it’s your turn! How was your week in workouts? Any big accomplishments or setbacks?
