Almost The End of 2013 Goals Check-In

It’s December. And I just celebrated a birthday. So now seems like a good time to check-in on those goals I set for the year.

Truthfully, I didn’t want to write this post since I would have to own up to completely abandoning some of these goals. But I want to be as honest as possible, so here we go.

Running/Fitness

1. Run a sub-2:10 half marathon

Sub 2:10, you will be mine.

Sorry, last time for this picture I swear.

Done and done. This was my number 1 running goal for this year, so I’m very excited to cross this off my list.

2. Try something new each month.

Nope, total fail. Didn’t even try to make this goal a priority. I’d say I would make this a 2014 goal, but honestly I think this will get as much attention next year as it did this year.

3. Set a new 10K PR.

Done.

4. Run new to me races.

Success! Ran a bunch of new races in 2013. Run all the races!

Other Goals (a/k/a non-running/fitness related).

1. Tackle Mount To Be Read.

A mixed bag. I read a few, bought some new books, and packaged a bunch of books to be donated. Still a work in progress.

A small portion of the books on my shelf I haven't read yet.

Of the books pictured, I’ve read two.  Still.

2. Only Handle It Once (OHIO).

Still working on it. I seem to go through phases when I’m 100% on top of things, and then phases when I feel like I’m constantly playing catch-up. I guess that’s adulthood for you.

3. Be open to spontaneity.

Again, still working on it. And one to probably keep working on in 2014.

4. Let go of the past.

Getting there. Not always easy or pretty, but very important.  Life is too short to waste time on things/people who don’t enrich your life..

So, with just under a month to go in 2013, I’ve done really well with my running/fitness goals, but maybe not as well with my non-fitness/life goals. Clearly, running was a big priority for me this year, and will continue to be in 2014 as I train for and complete my second marathon, but I want/need to spend more time working on things away from running and training.

Now it’s your turn! How are you doing with your goals for this year? Have you started setting goals for 2014?

Love these goals because they are both attainable yet not “easy” – good stuff! I’m not usually so specific with my goals, I should be better about that!

Thanks! This was the first time I was specific about goals. It definitely helped, even if some missed the mark!
